3 Benefits of Structured Day Treatment for Adolescents and Teens

If your adolescent or teen has received a mental health diagnosis, you may be wondering what to do next. Knowing what course to take can feel overwhelming with many treatment options available. Many parents fear the repercussions associated with the stigma of a mental health diagnosis. However, a diagnosis provides knowledge that can direct the course of treatment. One highly beneficial treatment option is a structured day treatment program.

At Beyond Healthcare, our day treatment program takes place after school or during the day when school is not in session. The structured support of our day treatment program helps adolescents struggling with mental health or behavior issues overcome their challenges and develop new skills. Call 833.698.0453 to learn more about the benefits of structured day treatment.

Can Your Adolescent Benefit from a Day Treatment Program?

When an adolescent has a mental health disorder or conduct disorder, it impacts the entire family. Beyond Healthcare offers day treatment programs for adolescents held after school or during the day on school breaks. Our program benefits adolescents and teens who struggle with mental health or behavioral issues and their families.

The benefits of a structured day treatment program are profound. Your adolescent or teen will function better at school, at home, and in daily life. They will experience reduced stress, strengthened relationships, and a better quality of life. Three specific benefits are:

  1. Learning to identify and better manage emotions and behaviors
  2. Enhanced relationship skills through peer interactions
  3. Improved ability to function in school, at home, and within the community

To help determine whether or not a structured day treatment program is right for your adolescent or teen, ask yourself the following:

  • Has your adolescent been given a mental health diagnosis?
  • Does your adolescent struggle with activities of daily living?
  • Does your adolescent have problems with peer relationships?
  • Does your adolescent have adequate supervision outside of school?
  • Is your adolescent not making progress with current medication or therapy?
  • Can your adolescent benefit from a structured, supportive, therapeutic environment?
  • Has your adolescent been suspended or expelled from school?

What Are the Goals and Objectives of a Day Treatment Program?

Your adolescent’s mental health is as important as their physical health. Untreated mental health disorders can negatively impact their physical health. The structured day treatment program at Beyond Healthcare utilizes group therapy to help your adolescent or teen manage their mental health symptoms and behavior issues.

Following are the main goals and objectives of our day treatment program:

  • Build social skills to improve relationships with peers, family members, and others
  • Learn alternatives to high-risk behaviors
  • Improve daily functioning and overall well-being
  • Develop and strengthen positive coping skills
  • Learn to manage and effectively express emotions
  • Increase self-esteem
  • Connect the mind, body, and spirit through comprehensive, holistic treatment

Our day treatment program runs from 4 pm to 7 pm Monday through Friday during the school year. We encourage adolescents and teens to attend a minimum of three times weekly.

What to Expect from a Structured Day Treatment Program

Even when adolescents have the same diagnoses, their unique makeup and circumstances require that treatment be specifically tailored to their individual needs. The multidisciplinary treatment team at Beyond Healthcare takes the time to get to know your adolescent or teen, to understand their needs. In creating your adolescent’s treatment plan, we may utilize any of the following:

  • Structured group therapy
  • Behavior modification
  • Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)
  • Strengths-based approaches
  • Motivational enhancement therapy
  • Trauma therapy

Because treatment needs to be enjoyable for adolescents and teens to become and remain invested in, we also employ a variety of therapies that take advantage of art, music, games, and movement. Additionally, we provide family therapy, support, and education so that your family can heal, improve communication and interpersonal skills, and effectively support your adolescent’s recovery.
